Audience Engagement Fellowship / Coda Story

Coda Story is offering a paid year-long audience engagement fellowship to an early-career professional passionate about journalism and building audiences around topics that matter.

This position is based in our English-speaking newsroom in Tbilisi, Georgia. You will report to the CEO and work with senior editorial staff in NYC, London and Tbilisi to reimagine Coda’s engagement strategy, to find and engage new audiences and to better understand and grow Coda’s existing readership.

This is a great opportunity to gain international experience and play a leadership role in developing a social and digital strategy that will help our newsroom connect with larger and more diverse audiences, and engage readers and viewers as part of a community that cares about independent journalism and reporting on global crises. The fellow will be expected to play a key role in innovating and implementing Coda’s engagement strategies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a new engagement strategy across all platforms
  • Work with our Impact Editor to develop, implement and grow a membership program
  • Grow our newsletter subscription list
  • Identify and manage partner publishers

What we’re looking for:

Our Tbilisi team is international, but small, and works closely with a wide network of global freelancers. Coda is a highly collaborative environment, where everyone has an opportunity to experiment and execute ideas which are aligned with our mission to bring context and continuity to stories shaping our world.  

You are our ideal candidate if you believe in Coda’s mission, share our passion for journalism and innovation, and are an excellent team player. A good sense of humor and an appetite for an adventure are a plus. Other requirements include:

  • Experience in social media and audience development
  • Experience in search engine optimization
  • Understanding of journalism membership models 
  • Understanding of email newsletters and campaigns
  • Familiarity with google analytics and other tools
  • A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Light HTML and/or Photoshop experience and video editing skills are a plus

The fellowship will begin in mid-January and run for 1 year, with a possibility of a full time employment at the end. The fellowship will cover round-trip airfare, local health insurance and a living stipend of 2,000 USD per month. Coda will not provide housing directly but accommodations are plentiful and affordable and we will provide all the guidance you may need throughout the relocation process. Tbilisi is an exciting, cosmopolitan city with a thriving creative industry and Georgia has one of the most liberal visa policies in the world, making it very easy for citizens of most countries to move.
